Launchpad Code down-time Monday 6th October 2008

Thursday, October 2nd, 2008

On October 6th Launchpad’s code hosting and browsing will be unavailable for around four hours from 22.00 UTC.

  • Going offline: 22.00 UTC 6th October
  • Expected back before: 02.00 UTC 7th October

During this down-time, the following services will be unavailable:

  • pushing to, pulling and branching from Launchpad-hosted branches
  • code browsing
  • code review
  • mirroring from externally hosted Bazaar branches
  • imports from CVS and Subversion repositories.

Mirrors and imports will return to their normal schedule following the down-time.

Non-code hosting parts of Launchpad should be unaffected.

We’re taking these services offline to upgrade the hardware that powers Launchpad’s code hosting service. Not only will this help Launchpad handle the increasing increasing number of people using code hosting but will also enable us to introduce exciting new features in coming Launchpad releases.

If you have any questions or comments, please post them here.

Legal Page Updates

Tuesday, August 12th, 2008

Hi,

Today I’m happy to announce two changes which appear on the Launchpad Legal page.

  1. The Launchpad Logo, previously unlicensed, is now licensed as “Creative Commons Attribution-No Derivative Works 2.0 UK: England & Wales”. “No Derivative” was chosen to preserve our branding integrity.
  2. The Launchpad Help wiki documentation and the Launchpad News blog, previously unlicensed, are now licensed as “Creative Commons Attribution 2.0 UK: England & Wales”.

These changes have been made in response to our users and other commercial entities inquiring if they can display/reuse/remix these items. Previously, any non-Launchpad use required explicit permission (except as permitted by fair-use).

Please visit the Launchpad Legal page for the full details and links to the Creative Commons Licenses.

Launchpad service interruptions 17th, 18th and 19th June

Thursday, June 12th, 2008

On June 17th, Launchpad will be unavailable for five hours from 22.00 UTC. Following that, there will be service interruptions on June 18th and 19th.

Downtime details

  • June 17th 22.00 UTC – 03.00 UTC: all of Launchpad will be offline.
  • June 18th 22.00 UTC – 00.00 UTC: code browse and pushing and pulling to code branches hosted on Launchpad will be unavailable.
  • June 19th 22.00 UTC – 03.00 UTC: uploading to, building and publishing in package archives – both distribution archives and PPAs – will be unavailable.

Why this is happening

We’re upgrading the servers that host Launchpad to use the latest version of Ubuntu, 8.04 LTS (also known as Hardy Heron). This will give us an improved platform on which to develop new Launchpad services. Specifically, we’ll get Python 2.5 and PostgreSQL 8.3, along with updates to several libraries that Launchpad relies on.

We’re sorry for the down-time and service interruptions that these upgrades will cause.

If you have any questions, please post them to the launchpad-users.

Please note: we have a new ultra-low traffic list for Launchpad service announcements. Subscribe to launchpad-announce.
